• Water soil not foliage, over watering leaves invites fungal attacks
  • Water early in the morning, never in the heat of a summers day. Wet leaves in the hot sun can damage plants.
  • If you water in the evening, make sure there is enough time for leaves to dry before dark.
  • Mulch with organic matter to trap in existing soil moisture.
  • Don't over water, plants will develop shallow roots and fruit may rot.
  • In dry conditions, water deeply 2-3 times a week.
  • Sit a container out when you water and when there is 2-3cm (1 inch) of water in the bottom, your garden has had enough.
  • Use a trigger hose to direct water where needed, only use overhead sprinklers if you are too busy to water by hand.
  • Only water at a rate the soil can absorb, if runoff occurs then slow the water flow down.
