- 2 C grated cheese and a little extra for the tops
- 3 3/4 C white flour
- 1/4 C wholemeal flour
- 4 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- 2 1/4 - 2 1/2 C milk
Gently combine the cheese, flour, baking powder, pepper, and salt in a bowl.
Slowly add the milk and gently mix with your hand.
When the dough is just combined, scoop out spoonfuls onto a lined oven tray.
Sprinkle tops with cheese.
Bake at 200C for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
Makes 10-12 scones.
You can make an even healthier version by using 3 cups white flour and 1 cup wholemeal instead. We have tried this variation and they taste just as nice. It all depends on how dense you like your scones.
